Fun night with 4x first time comics on the roster! For me I was stoked to notice the lights and work with them. Still need to manage time better as I waffled too much and didn’t get to the closer. Also bombed an audience interaction so lots to takeaway. Big crowd which is epic to see midweek!

The intimate format of Nerd Degree at LA is always a good time. This episode was fun as I know very little about Star Wars, but still enjoyed it and stayed well engaged by the joy the cast had for the subject matter.

James presented a fun mix of stand up and prepared media comedy. The interactions with the video characters were well done and his mum was a fantastic co-star.

Really fun show with hints of Squid Game and Black Mirror as two women compete in a delightful, eclectic mix of challenges. “‘Sweeties’ is an absurd, dark, sketch comedy theatre show. Exploring the inescapable cycle of measuring ourselves against each other.” Love a cold open and a good Calci-yum. Also have a crush on Brynley.

Totally new set went down well. A couple of slip ups as I misjudged the closer and ended on silence. Also missed the light and found out I overran my time quite badly. Sorry dear venue. Lots of positive feedback, and I love being in the Greenroom and meeting and chatting with other comics!

Very cosy mix of fun acts! Brendon Bennetts took one for the team and got the Hitler material out of the way half way through the show. The sketch of the South Island with Banks Peninsula drawn as a little Hitler face was brilliant. Was considering asking for Brendon to sign and this and take it as a memento. Backed out in the end – don’t want to be placed on any more lists.

Good Times were had. Some people are just really charming, e.g. UK Visitor Ivanov Saarinen-Boeck and Jak Darling. Must look up how to be charming one of these days.
14 April 2023 – 50 (More) Shades of Ray @ Little Andromeda (Ray Shipley)
Great show from Ray! They have a gift for channeling their nervous energy in a really fun way. The long list of anxieties was relatable. It’s very cool to see people who are dealing with high anxiety, but still kicking arse. I couldn’t tell how much of their demeanour was a stage persona and how much was real. I realise that may sound terrible if it was all real (!), but I really enjoy acts that operate in this space where I don’t quite know what’s real! Nathan Fielder is a magician.
13 April 2023 – Perfuct Storm! @ Little Andromeda (Dan Bain, Andrew Todd, Ross Gumbley)
With the prompt “What is something you keep returning to?”, the cast and audience produced such gems as ‘a tour of parliament every few years’, ‘math homework’, ‘artificial sweeteners’ and ‘a childhood home’. What followed was an array of scenes ranging from ‘fun’ to ‘more fun’. Also learned that a common conception of ‘weird stuff’ that you might do at home with the curtains closed is to masturbate while using remote shaped objects to stimulate the anus. Might give it a try some time as I’ve often been described as ‘weird’.
Disclaimer: as with the show itself, where a range of ideas are mixed together in a fun, cheese-induced nightmare format, there’s a chance my recollection of the show is greatly distorted. (Was I even there?!)

Lots of great group dynamics and physical comedy were on display in this fun play. A nice look at celebrity obsession and a range of “very specific” fantasy scenarios. Must remember to submit my idea for a new word to Mr Collins – Oneupwomanship (noun).
